The speaker contains a magnet which is used to put the DS into sleep mode. If you have the speakers in the DS, it should go into sleep mode when you close the case, because of a small magnetic switch inside the DS.

Thanks for the helpful guide! I have my son's DS apart right now exchanging the case due to a broken hinge. The microphone hasn't worked since he broke the hinge. When I got into the case I found the end of the mic cable was loose. It was attached to the motherboard but where does the other end go? I can't seem to find where to reattach it...

Thank you Very much Ben!!! you really know your stuff!!! Thank you!

as for the guy with mircrophone problem here a pic of were it should be placed.

eh..might of messed up with links but it should show were the mic shuold go on the new ds case. unless iam wrong and misunderstood, thats were it should be. also make sure for this inexperinced person that make sure the rubber thing doesn't cover the real mic. i put mines under the screens metal end, which i did on my own acourd, not sure if thats the right way but its fine with me. hope this helps

mcmary, if you can get me a picture, that would be great.

One end of the cable attaches to the motherboard, the other end is a microphone. If you don't have a microphone attached, it must have broken off. In which case you will have to try and solder it back on. As Sora911 has pointed out, the microphone is placed at the bottom of the top screen. The Microphone is about 5mm in size, is rubber and black. The cable is white.

Hello, I am having trouble with this part too. The little black thing is flipped up, but the ribbon cable is not coming off. Has it got some adhesive on it? I have been trying to edge an xacto knife under it, but it's not coming loose. Of course I don't want to force it, so any other ideas?

Thanks!

Oops, I meant to quote this previous post:
"No I haven't got that far yet.
I've copied the bit below from your instructions so you know which bit i'm talking about.
"There is one ribbon cable to remove on the back of the board before the motherboard is free. This is for the top screen"

I've tried pulling the clip and sliding it but i still can't get it off."

Pull the cable. DO NOT USE A KNIFE. If you damage the cable, you will not be able to replace it.

There's nothing keeping it in, its just wedged in place. Just pull it evenly on both sides.
