Purchasing a new computer

After much deliberation and constant mind changing, I've decided to wait a while before I get a PS3, and instead have a suitable PC for playing stuff like Trackmania, WarRock and Half Life 2. My computer, being a Dell 3100/E310 has the reputation of being un-upgradeable, due to the PSU and motherboard installed in it, so I would like to get a new computer. I've looked at Gumtree, where I saw alot of good stuff, as well as barebones kits on Misco.
I'd like to keep costs low. I don't mind selling my computer.
Mine has:
1 gig of RAM, 80 gig HDD, Integrated Sound and graphics, DVD R/W, 15" flat panel monitor if I can get one with a computer, as well as the Printer and speakers somewhere in my room.
I'd like a computer with at least these specs, but most importantly it must have PCI-Expressx16 so I can change the graphics card or already have a good ATI or NVidia built in.
Muchos gracias, JA.
(PS: I'd like it to run Direct X 9 or possibly even DX10. But smooth DX9 play is a must.)

Post edited by: Kamizoroe, at: 2007/08/02 18:55

Budget?
Also, do you want a new screen?
And DX10 cards are expensive, and only work with Vista at the moment, until the DX10 is fixed for XP (which is now possible).
A computer with DX10 card will cost you about £1000+, so I'd recommend buying it seperately. Still, if you're only playing low end games like those, and are only using onboard at the moment, you'd be surprised how an average 256mb graphics card will go.

Nah, I'm not that bothered about being able to play Crysis. But I would like to play the afformentioned games, and stuff like Battlefield 2142.
I've not really got a particular set budget, so let's say £425, as that's the price of the PS3. I'd rather it be alot less, though.
Screen? Not particularly bothered. I really like this 15 inch flat panel, the size isn't bad and it doesn't take up any space on my desk. But if I was able to get something better with the computer (like alot of stuff on gumtree) then that would be awesome.

Post edited by: Kamizoroe, at: 2007/08/02 20:24

I wouldn't bother with the stuff on Gumtree, they're overpriced second hand pieces of shit.
Try www.ebuyer.com.

Yes? (It has a PCI-Ex16 slot and an NVidia graphics card!)
[Crappy processor and much less RAM, though.]
Never mind this one, it's worse than my current computer.

Post edited by: Kamizoroe, at: 2007/08/03 19:22

Crappy processor? Sempron are actually pretty good. Nowhere near as powerful as todays quadcore, but still good.
If you're looking for better though, http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/128312/rb/0
That's a much better deal. Twice as much, 4x more power.

But Dell aren't upgradable unless you get them to do it. And they overcharge on parts.

I don't think he's that dedicated to PC gaming, since he's not bothered about a screen.. That ebuyer one seems good enough for PC gaming. on a budget...

Post edited by: enterthehatrix, at: 2007/08/04 10:17
