I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

You mean, you peeled the touch screen off to clean it, and ripped the ribbon cable off it?

Take another photograph, but further away so that it is more focused. You're holding the camera too close to the DS.

Hi,

I used your guide and replaced my damaged shell with a new shell. The guide is great, and everything looks great, however, after admiring my handy work... turning it on, the bottom screen flickers white and the power goes out.

Previously posted, someone also had the same problem, I also tried to re-seat the top LCD ribbon to the motherboard, with the same result. I then noticed a small "dot" or indentation on the ribbon...

Is that enough to damage the ribbon or did i fry the motherboard?

It won't fry your board, but it could be the cause.

If you have good soldering skills you could repair it. Otherwise you may need a new screen.

Only required to solder the speakers onto the new screen correct?

You shouldnt need to solder anything.

I can't imagine that the spec is the cause, check the full length of the cable and the connector piece. If that appears to be damaged or not inserted correctly that may be the cause.;

Checked all cables, didnt touch the bottom screen, but both ribbons seems fine, the top however, the inside curve edges were scraped possibly from the metal O-ring or fitting into the new shell.
I don't know what to look for on the end of the top screen ribbon to see if it is right or not.

Also, are the connected ribbons connected correctly?

Thanks.

Difficult to tell, you should use the macro function on your camera and keep it a lot further back than you're keeping it for a crisper picture.

Chances are those scraped edges are the cause.. Get a magnifying glass and inspect the traces much closer.

Ok, thanks for your help. After much convincing a friend says its better to purchase a new/working ds and repair this one on my spare time.

I'ma follow his advice.

In the later future I may have more questions, thanks for your assistance.

hey Ben! Dude so sorry for not responding earlier. Internet was eliminated for a good while! Barely back! as to what i mentioned a long time ago. I must have ripped off the connectors to the touch screen. I ended up buying a new one right after. For now i need to buy a new one cause they sold a faulty one. but its fine with me.
And For LrdMikhal! HELL YEAH! ITS IN OUR BLOOD TO DO SO!!! XD

Hi Ben. My cousin broke the righthand hinge on his ds recently. Saw your review of replacement case and instructions and said i'd try and and swap them for him. The case has now arrived but the top screen of the original now only shines white when before both screens were working and it was still usable if you balanced the top screen against something. Has he damaged the ribbon cable? Is it still worth trying to replace case?

Thanks Tom

Hey! i sorta had the exact same problem when it came down to it. following Bens advise it turns out because the hinge broke on my old one the ribbion cable somehow "broke". Now that you broke it best thing to do is buy a New Top Screen off any online store that sells them. Ebay is were i get it! it works! oh, but remeber you need to disconnect the speackers and then Solder them back in. Its really not that all hard to do but yes it takes time too as well but in the end worth it! XD
OH and from a beginner point of view! See if the shell has been PreDrilled. The shell i got was REally nice. Only problem was tring to screw in the screws with the..well screw driver. but it can be done. with alot of strength.

The battery cover uses a standard screwdriver. If you've rounded it, I'd suggest heating it up with a soldering iron to melt the plastic and stick a flat edge screwdriver or knife into the battery cover and slowely melt the plastic battery cover off.

Since you're replacing the case anyway I doubt it matters much.

As for the top screen it could very simply be that the force dislodged the ribbon cable if not ripped it slightly. If you know what you're doing, it's a very easy fix.

Most people buy whole new screens, but you can fix them.
