too long.. Mostly waiting for the weather to paint, but now that I'm doing it indoors, a lot quicker.

Well, I had to strip off the paint too... I think it's this batch of black, because it's litterally peeling off.
I'm going to return the cans and take the case to show them, because it's all primed properly, it's just not sticking down.
Hopefully, they'll replace the cans, because the black is as weak as anything, it's just not right. The silver was fine, but the black is just chipping away and is really soft.

Because of the damage on the paint work, I had to get a whole new case.
It arrived the other day, so I'm just sanding down the lid (the one salvaged bit from the project) and repainting it to a nice finish. The original case was black, so it doesn't need a lot of work doing, which is good. Just a prime and few paints.

Yeah, but that's ages ago.. Since then I've set up a spray area, and nearly finished this mod. Just got to put some rubbing compound to the new case to get it shiny (Just applied lacquer, it's as dull as hell so polishing it will help) then some car wax.

Looking good.
The surface is really diffused, I've tried to smooth it out, but the lacquer doesn't react well to sanding, which does pose a big problem.
I can still keep polishing it and using rubbing compound to get it as smooth as I can though.

Don't worry about making the DS look like a PS3. As long as it looks presentable, I'm happy with it.

It definitely looks presentable.
Polished, no. The problem is with the lacquer, once rubbed down, it's really dull. If you're not bothered about it, I'll take some pictures so you can see how the finish looks with the rough skin.

Ignoring the fact that that would eliminate the point of actually modding, I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished design, it's incredibly promising, and might bring the site a few more hits.

I agree, but we've encountered alot of problems along the way and it may be easier just to play it safe.
Also, the case will still be different and there'll still be the LEDs.

Well that certainly sounds (and after looking at the pictures, looks) very cool.
They won't drain the battery though would they?
I mean, I know the point of this DS is mainly cosmetic, otherwise there would be no real point in actually modding...
I'm just looking at it from a practical point of view.
LEDs don't use too much power, we all know that, but they wouldn't shorten the batery life of the DS too much would they?
