I was all set to like "Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie and the Amp." I actually like their show (to a degree). And I often like platform games. But Puffy AmiYumi tries for innovative and hits annoying with its control system.
You control your character (Ami or Yumi, one of whom is snarky and wears purple and the other of whom is sweet and wears pink) by strumming guitar strings on the DS's touch screen. (You can also just push the A, B, X and Y buttons.) The controls are frustrating -- I was never clear on which string did what, thanks to the many possible combinations. And since all four buttons are taken up with the attack controls, you use the left shoulder button to jump. I found that fairly inconvenient.
The graphics are colorful but not especially well done; they have a sort of crude look which I found disappointing.
Rent it. This one's not worth buying.
