Get closer to the combat with the Wii than any other console
Call of Duty 3 is the third installment of the popular series call of duty. Last year Activision came out with 2 different types of game for Call of Duty which are: Call of Duty 2 BRO (Big Red One) for PS2, Xbox and Gamecube and Call of Duty 2 for PC and Xbox 360. Both games were completely different from one another however they both feature the same type of game play only in different platforms and different story lines.

In this installment Call of Duty 3 Activision decided to just keep the same game for all next-gen consoles only difference is the graphics. Call of Duty 3 for the Wii is very unique because you get to use the Wii-mote as a weapon. Just like the PS3 or Xbox 360 Version you can play sitting down in your couch instead of heading for cover. To get into to the game you must relax, trust me there are plenty of broken TV’s all around the word already we’re trying to prevent that.

Call of Duty 3 follows the same game play as previous call of duty games where you are either: British, US or French. Whatever happened to the Russians? Every time you pass through a level of non stop shooting you will move on to the next one where you will control a French. Unlike the other Call of Duty titles where you play through a certain amount of levels and then turn into someone else this game will frequently keep changing. The same weapons as other Call of Duty games are in this one so there is really nothing new in the weapons department. My top 3 weapons to use in this game are MP40, Thomson and the Springfield Rifle.

The graphics and visuals in Call of Duty 3 for the Wii are basically the ones for the PS2 and Xbox although they do look a little better. Whenever there is a cut scene the scene is rendered to look HD just like the PS3 and Xbox 360. So don’t get surprised when you see the first cut scene because you will only end up disappointed. What really amazed me the most in the graphics department was the smoke when a building, tank or all others blow up and when you throw a grenade or smoke bomb and you see the smoke. The smoke is one of the most beautiful visuals you will see in the game and everything else is last gen. The sound in this game is truly amazing for a Dolby Pro Logic II. By this time you really can’t expect any less from Call of Duty 3 in sound effects and voice over.

Just like Red Steel, Call of Duty 3 takes a while getting used to and you must first mess around with the settings before you feel comfortable enough to start aiming and shooting. With the Wii-mote you point and shoot and the Nun-Chuck you move around. You also use them both to plant weapons and drive around in a car. Driving a car is one of the most tiring moments of the game because you need to hold the Nun-Chuck and the Wii-mote and a 9 to 3 o’clock ration for it to work properly. They don’t necessarily have to be like that but it’s best so that you don’t get confused over what you are doing. I tried putting my arms in the arm rest but that just makes things worst and I cannot turn the car around. It is just like holding a steering wheel. The Wii-mote also serves as your arms when someone attacks you in close combat. Throwing grenades is a lot easier with the D-pad than using the nun-chuck because sometimes it will not work and the grenade will blow off right in your face. Most of the time you will have to stop and shoot people because your accuracy rate will drop by 99% and all you will be doing is wasting bullets.

The game frequently saves from time to time which of course is AKA auto-save. This is really handy because if there is a power outage or you get bored of playing you don’t need to go through the hassle of going back out and looking for the save option. This is a feature that many games have and I think is really convenient. Unlike MOH: Frontline where you have to go through 30 to 40 minutes of a level without dying and at the very end when you have low health and you think you passed it then all of the sudden the doors open you thinking to yourself “yes I finally passed this damn level” only to find out that there are more soldiers waiting for you at the other side of that door and by the time you see them and get your weapon ready its already too late and you’re dead so you have to start all over from the beginning which is really frustrating. That was a long sentence. Moving on.

There is no health bar in Call of Duty 3. If you get hit many times you die and you will have to start over from the last check point. This is somewhat convenient although we all know that if you get shot a million times you will eventually have to die sometime. Your radar is basically useless you cannot see enemies when they are there and when you can see them you’re too busy focusing on shooting them and having great accuracy with the Wii-mote. The enemy is just little red dots and can be really hard to see them and when they appear they catch you by surprise but not unless you already know they are there.

Closing Comments:
Different Battles, same call of duty game that we have all played before. The only difference is in the Wii version because you can use the Wii-motes innovation to come up with new things which makes this a must have game if you love WWII shooters. When you first get this game don’t just quit it because the controls are too hard. Give it time and mess around with the settings and eventually you will get used to it just like I did. All day all I can think about is playing Call of Duty 3 for the Wii and nothing else, taking presidence over my collection: Gears of War, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, The Legend of Zelda: TP, Devil May Cry 3 pack.
Game Play: Takes a while to get used to but it’s worth it. 8/10
Graphics: Last Gen graphics but still looks good especially the smoke. 9/10 Sound: Great sound effects but sometimes I wish I can put my own tunes just like the 360. 8/10 Controls: Gives you the option to use what you want not necessarily tied down to the Wii’s innovation. 10/10 Life Span: No good un-lockable’s but game takes a while to conquer. 8/10 Total Score: 86 = B
