With the Nintendo Wi, it was only a matter of time before its older brother -Gamecube- was knocked into oblivion.
"Nintendo's GameCube will completely bow out from the Taiwan market in 2007, to be replaced by the vendor's next-generation Wii game console, according Hakuyu, Nintendo's Taiwan sales agent.
The agent said it ordered only about 1,000 units of the GameCube for all of 2006, and its latest orders for the game console amounted to about only 100 units. Hakuyu said it currently will place orders with Nintendo for GameCubes only at the request of retailers, and when Wii is launched in Taiwan, GameCube will completely bow out.
Market sources indicated that demand for GameCube cannot last because there are not too many games available. With a current price tag of NT$3,500 (US$105.8), GameCube stands little chance of withstanding competition from Wii, whose price will not be too much higher, the sources said."
