Medievil Resurrection As many of you people know, this is a re-make of the original game for the play station, and I would like to point out, it was nothing short of an amazing game, and you know the old saying: "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" the original was far from broke, unfortunately they tried to fix it.....
for those who played the original: Oh dear, what was nothing short of a great violent classic has been ruined, as the creators discover the "kiddies market" :( you may notice: no blood this time, no creepy music, no complex puzzles, all the 'scary' villains replaced with comic friendly monsters, half the levels have been removed, and it just so happens that the best ones were taken out, so now its easy to complete, with all the original puzzles taken out, and the more complicated parts of the plot removed. what's more we now have an annoying little pixie who keeps telling you what to do every step of they way and spews out annoying catchphrases called Nav..... no actually its: Al-zalam. but still, prepared to be lead through the game by the second most annoying sidekick ever. [img align=right]http://www.ps-central.com/ratio/news/MedievilPSP/Medievilpic1.jpg" /> real review: the game is set in the fictional world of Gallowmere, where there world seems to me stuck in the middle ages (hence the games title) basically, there was a huge war 100 years previously between some wizard and his evil army of freaks verses the kings men. Basically the good guys one, but the champion, Denzil fortiusque (Dan for short) was the first to be killed in battle. naturally history makes up some story about how heroic he was, he is actually a complete coward. and now he is dead, and rotting in a tomb. now, it turns out the wizard wasn't dead at all, infact he goes on a rampage, and raises the dead to take over the world. Fortunately, this brings back Dan as well, who sees this as his big chance to prove himself as a hero. a great hack n' slash, with a large arsenal of weapons; various swords, bows, clubs, and even flamethrowers and lightning bolts. Smooth movement with interesting levels and unique ideas, the health does go down incredibly fast, but you get alot of lives where you regenerate on the spot, so only a bit of time is wasted. There are plenty on combo moves. Unique but easy puzzles, and there is no repetitiveness in the game. the only real complaint is the minigames, these are all ripped from various fairground games, whack-a-mole, shooting range coconut shy, and even sheep herding. But what this game has that the prequel doesn't is great funny characters: A mayor with a pie obsession, a gay pirate skeleton, fairies that talk like gangsters, witches with sexual feelings towards vegetables, and a frightfully upper-class dragon. The cut scenes are smooth and highly detailed with lots of movement, and something pretty damn funny in every one. Also a nice treat was the voice of Tom Baker (Little Britain narrator, Dr Who, Randle and Hopkirk) as the Grim Reaper and aid to Dan in his quest. Those who played the original will remember the hall of hero's where if you killed enough baddies and found a chalice, at the end of the level you could go to the hall of heroes, where one of the dead heroes will give you one of their weapons, this is brilliant for expanding your weapons choice, and I recommend you try to get there at the end of each level. All in all a great game, brought down slightly with attempts at the kiddies market, but still?.. 75% - a great treat, and one of the must have games from the launch line up [img align=left]http://www.ps-central.com/ratio/news/MedievilPSP/medievilpic2.jpg" /> |
