Perhaps unsurprisingly the PSP outsold the DS in America last year however things arent as simple as that.
Overall the DS has in fact sold more units in America overall, but in the year 2005 DS only managed to sell 2.43 million units whilst the PSP sold 3.63 million units. Despite this though the biggest selling handheld of 2005 in America was one that had been on the market since 2001, in 3 different forms, the Game Boy Advance which sold over 4.26 million units. The release of the smaller and sexier Game Boy Micro no doubt had something to do with the sales but nevertheless this was a surprise. Combined sales give Nintendo a 65% handheld market share.
