Our review of a great game for all ages!
My initial thoughts on this were game were "it's for kids, what would a 36 year old man like myself get out of it?" - well, I have to admit, it's quite a lot. The game is understandable from the outset, the graphics are pretty good and the cut scenes are pretty funny. Storyline : The top teams from across the world have come to compete in The Great Juju Challenge. Representing the Pupanunu tribe are Tak and Lok who will face great adversity in the form of Jujus, wild animals and some menacing new tribes. Graphics: I have to give this game 8 out of 10 as I think the graphics are pretty good with nicely drawn characters. I didn't spot any glitches - well done to the beta testers there! I did find that I had to make good use of the camera (right analog stick) to look around and over edges as you just never knew what was coming next. Sound: Overall the sound is ok, nothing to make you hum or whistle - but then that is all we want in a game, a nice bit of ambient music that doesn't get in the way of thinking. One annoyance is if you leave the game for a minute the two main characters start having a go at you. First time it's funny. After a while it just starts to annoy. The voice for ‘Lok’ sounds just like Brad Garret who plays the part of ‘Robert’ in ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ – the American sit-com. Anyone who knows the sit-com will know what I mean Game Play: Overall, a big thumbs up for the game play. The buttons used throughout the game seem 'natural' and not awkward to manage at all. Level 1 is great with the tutorial - it means you can dive right into the game without even having to touch the manual :-) If you are a fan of platform games, you'll love this. One gripe I did have is that on some of the puzzles you just don't get enough time. One thing missing from this game is the ability to choose a difficulty level. Maybe a ‘kids’ mode to give extra time on some of the levels and puzzles could solve the ‘kids difficulty’ issue. To Summarise, I think this game will give hours of gaming fun to both kids and adults. Some of the puzzles will be too hard for some kids, but as they are being supervised (you ARE supervising them, right?) I am sure help will be at hand for them. One thing I did notice is that the overall game speed seems [noticably] faster on the Xbox compared to the PS2 - still great fun though. Pro's : Funny, nice graphics, good gameplay Cons : might be a bit hard for kids, no setting for difficulty level, not enough time on some puzzles.
