Well, we thought we were sick of the PSP2 rumours, but more have turned up! Could this just be someones despirate attempt to keep a dying rumour alive? Quite possibly!
Rumours are saying the PSP2 will do away with the UMD media, and will hold an enormous internal hard drive. It is also said that it will come out in a few years time. Well that makes sense since most new systems come out after a few years time... A pointless rumour? I think so... In my opinion this is just a rumour to prove everyone wrong about the PSP redesign which was supposedly due out this Christmas (which I think is crap too). But apparently this news comes directly from the horses mouth 'behind the scenes'. "As if having the most technically whizzy handheld machine on the market wasn't enough down at Sony towers, it seems that the company's already hard at work on a successor - currently being referred to as the PSP2, imaginatively enough - which is set to ditch UMD support, while including an internal hard drive. According to Shack News, a "reliable source close to Sony" has revealed the information, stressing that the handheld is a true successor to the PSP, rather than a redesign - although the latter seems to be in the works too. While the inclusion of a hard drive will no doubt please PSP owners who've been frustrated by the slightly finicky storage requirements of the handheld - relying, as it does, on Sony's proprietary Memory Stick DUO format - the news that the company is set to abandon support may be a considerable blow. Although it's perhaps logical, given the decline of UMD movie sales reported recently, it would seem to indicate that backward-compatibility with the current PSP library is unlikely - an unusual step for the company which has championed the feature in all of its machine since the PS2 was unveiled. Perhaps they'll just be delivered direct to drive instead as part of Sony's planned download service?" Source: |
