Lego's and Star Wars are combined to bring you this funny, entertaining and very long game of Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. Review Inside
Developed by Eidos Lego Star Wars was one of those games that no one saw coming. The game featured many familiar characters, Multiplayer, Star Wars Episode I, II and III, as well as comedy. The game was a hit and many star wars fans as well as non-fans of the series picked up a copy of the game.
However no trilogy is complete without the sequel. Lego Star Wars 2 the original trilogy is the sequel to the award winning Lego Star Wars game. The original trilogy features Star Wars Episode IV, V, and VI with added material. If you’ve watched the original Star Wars Movies then you pretty much know the story, and if you haven’t then too bad because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. Game Play:
In story mode the game spans from Episode IV – VI and the levels are similar to what the original movie has to offer. There is however a few added materials and for the most part it is not related to the movie. After you pass the game you can go back and play Free Play and get all the things that you couldn’t get in story mode to unlock even more characters and events just like Lego Star Wars 1. Different types of characters have different kinds of abilities. For example Jedi characters have the ability to double jump and use a light saber. Some characters have the ability to dive after they jump etc. these abilities can make you love or hate the game.
The camera is the only thing wrong in the entire game. Sometimes when you’re behind a wall you can’t see the other side until you move your character into a certain angle. You cannot fix it unless you move to certain parts of the room and even then you are attacked by storm troopers. You only get 4 hearts through out the entire game and you have unlimited lives. Every time you die you will loose Lego coins, which you need in order to unlock more items.
The characters move too slowly in the game sometimes it gets boring because I just want to rush through the game and save my data. I know I can just turn off my PSP and leave it on stand by, but then how am I going to listen to music when I walk to school. Not to mention that there is a lot of repetition through out the game. You always keep on shooting the storm troopers and others through out the entire game it feels to me that you’re not progressing through the game. It’s like the same scene over and over again.
Flying a spaceship like the X-wing is easy but hard to get used to. You can’t stop, you have to be at a certain angle to shoot something and you have to collect coins. I think it would do better if they had it in 2nd person point of view just like Star Wars Rogue Squadron. The ships you control are always moving and sometimes I don’t even know where I’m going Graphics:
There is no difference between the first Lego Star Wars game and the second one. The details of the Lego’s are clear and you can see that the world of Lego Star Wars II is all made of Lego’s, Including the snow. The movies are pre-rendered but there is not change in them, even though it looks like they were done in real time. The characters don’t even have any shadow which is not a big deal but sometimes people notice. Sound:
THX are part of Lucas Arts which means the sound is one high points of the game, even though the sound effects suck on the PSP, unless you’re wearing earphones. All of the sound effects of Star Wars with the sound of the Lego’s is included in this game and mixed to create the environment and sound effects of Lego Star Wars. The Star Wars there as well as the Darth Vader there is found through out the entire game. While playing through a level there is no music of any kind only when you’re attacked but as soon as the battle is over it fades away. Controls:
The controls are easy to pick up nothing out of the ordinary. X = Jump O = Use the force (Jedi’s) shoot ropes (people with guns) Open Doors (C3PO, R2D2 etc. Square = shoot, use the light saber (depending on the character) Triangle = Switch between characters. L and R = Change characters in Free Play Mode + Or joystick = Move your character around. Different characters have different commands depending on the level you’re in. There are some places you cannot access unless you’re in free play. Life Span:
Story Mode offers some hours of game pay. Free Play can provide you with even more hours of game play. There are many Characters, Tips, and other things to unlock. You can also watch the pre-rendered movies in the gallery after you pass the game. Over all this game can last for a couple of weeks if played frequently. Closing Comments:
Lego Star Wars II is a fun game to play however it can get boring after only 30 minutes of play. The levels are too long and the characters are too slow. When playing the game you have to do all the same things that you did in the previous level: Build, Move things around, shoot and find your way out. Jedi‘s are suppose to be acrobatic and move around and jump a lot but in this game you’re lucky if you can do a double jump while in a battle, so pretty much Lego Star Wars II is just like Lego Star Wars I but with different scenarios.
Game Play: Star Wars IV – VI compiled and told in one game with added scenarios, but gets boring after only 30 minutes of game play each time you turn it on. 7/10
Graphics: No Major changes from the first Lego Star Wars. 6/10
Sound: All the original sound effects as well as all the music from Star Wars is featured in this game. 9/10
Controls: Easy to understand and characters are easy to control but when controlling ships or Walkers is too difficult to control and gets confusing at times. 7/10
Life Span: The game is long and Story mode only takes 40% and 60% is free play and unlocking characters. This game will last you for a long time. 10/10
Over All Score: 78% = C+ Screen Shots can be found at our galley
