Its Final Fantasy with pirates in space. A Great Combination?
If you are a member of the PlayStation Underground you will receive game demos from Sony. Rouge Galaxy is a game that is set to be released on January 2007. The Demo came with a pirate flag and a poster both for hanging on the wall. I have not heard anything about Rogue Galaxy and I didn?t know it existed until recently. Rogue Galaxy seems to be a mix of FF XII and Dragon Quest 8, Action/Adventure with Cell Shaded graphics. When I first inserted the DVD it showed 3 options the first 2 are in game adventures and the third is a movie or a trailer of the game. The trailer makes the game interesting with all the action, adventure and features that the game has to offer. However when I played the first mission which is explore a town and battle some monsters it seemed boring and unentertaining. Walking around looking for people with main characters blathering about nothing. After a while it does get annoying and I hope the final game has an option of turning it off. Just like Final Fantasy they do not tell you what to do or where to go, so expect walking around in circles for a while until you find that thing that will let you move on. Fighting monsters in Rogue Galaxy is just like fighting monsters in FFXII. You can move around jump use magic and special moves. If you are going to use special moves you must make sure you are in front of the monster you want to attack not an inch too far because if you use it and it is not correct you will miss. If you fight too much your green meter will deplete and you will not be able to attack until it refills. I guess that means that your character is tired. This sucks because I?m the type of guy that likes to go all out and unleash everything at once. If I get tired in a game I get annoyed and ill just end up turning off the game and walking away. Unlike FFXII this game does have some features that I like. For example if the character you are controlling dies you can switch to another character and revive the downed character. There are 3 members in your party and if 2 of them die you can always bring them back to life if you have the right items. You can also command your characters to use magic whenever they are ready by either pressing the L1 or L2 buttons. You can also change the AI of the characters in your party to a setting of your liking for example: Fall Back, All out, Strategize etc. This is good because the AI will use items or magic whenever they need to, increasing your chances of wining. The graphics in this game suck. Of course this is just a trial version but when the real version hits store shelves it needs to give the gamer an option of widescreen or standard TV as well as progressive scan support. The visuals as well as environments and characters look pixilated and blurry on an HD TV even with the component cables. I know it?s not my TV because other games look amazing on it. Rogue galaxy is not a completed game. They have a lot of work to do and take care of. It looks like a good game and I?m willing to buy it but if this is how the retail version is going to be like I might as well just save my money and buy something else.
