Old movies like King Kong are being recreated into new movies like Peter Jackson's King Kong which is coming out soon. But how many games are there where an old Movie has become a game? Find out more...
Bond Crashes back into action in this new game From Russia With Love. Based on the old movie, the game is set in merry old England. James Bond is usually saving the day at this point and yet again it starts off with the classic Bond entrance. James Bond is casually dining with the princess (voiced by Natasha Beddingfield) when a group of terrorists suddenly decide that the Princess needs to be kidnapped once and for all. After many failed attempts the terrorists are staging their most elaborate scheme to the day. Little do they know that Bond is right on their tail. After kidnapping the princess you get to work, with Bond as your character, chasing after that maniac who kidnapped the princess. You get an onld style silenced pistol and alot of expertise from Bond himself to make it through the first level. The excellent Bond decides to take to the sky and fly around after a helicopter around Big Ben finally ending up saving the princess and the day. This is only the beginning... There's no use hiding from Bond! James Bond is now being flown out to Russia on a deadly mission. You take to the streets in a fancy Austin Martin and you can go around shooting and killing nameless bad guys if you wish on foot. Whichever way your only goal is to save the day. Gameplay Bond himself is available in both first person and third person. Though it is normally thrid person this is made alot easier by the auto targeting system which allows you to make good shots without running into walls at the same time. The overall effect of the auto targeting is quite good, as you can also go into Bond View mode. Bond View Mode is a little add on that the creators have put in so that you can aim at varios points on the target. You seem to zoom in and green circles appear where you need to shoot. Normally this includes 2 circles. 1 circle is the henchman himself, who is a blithering idiot and doesn't seem to notic you aiming at his head. The second circle is for a grenade by his side. Shoot the grenade and the pin seems to magically drop out and explode by his side, killing most people around him. There are many other targets in Bond Mode but there are too many to name. Lets just say that this inginuity is a great addition to the game. Now driving around Russia may seem like an utterly boring chore but when equipped with rocket launchers and a machine gun you're ready to kick some ass. The car handles pretty lazily which is good and realistic. The Austin is pretty remarkable in itself giving the player limitless possibilities, as well as homing missiles. The car levels are extremely fun and definately the ones to play. Driving round Russia may seem like a chore but it's a big place and there's a lot of suprises along the way. Bond himself is tricked out too. Featuring the laser watch from the movie and many of the original guns. These little weapons are fun to use and have great possibilities in the game. The gadgets are cool and are worth going through an entire training level to use. There are Bond moments in the game as well. These are moments in each level where bond does something like from the movie or that looks like a spectacular scene. From Blowing up cars to swinging through windows and killing countless people these all are fun little things to do. Considering you take out insurance first. Graphics Knowing that graphics back in the days of Sean Connery weren't actually that great, all the movie scenes have actually been reproduced into generated graphics. Even though I myself would have liked to see Sean Connery dive through a window, this makes the user feel a bit more at touch with modern times even though this was way back in the seventies and eighties. The overall game graphics are brilliant. The backgrounds are filled with detail and Bond himself looks exactly like he did back in the day, judging that Bond is actually voiced by the original Bond from From Russian With Love. The tiniest detail has been taken into consideration here. From bullet holes in the wall to actual puncture marks in the villains chests and head. This game is filled with awesome textures and is definately a fantastic game to watch or play. Even billboards for old products back then have been implemented into the game! Multiplayer Unfortunately the game must be played a little bit to unlock most of the characters so you can play it. Still the levels are great and the overall feel of the game while playing alongside a friend is fantastic. Good things about multiplayer are actually doing the single player game enough to earn points to buy new characters. Though these do not contain fantastically known Bond characters there are some very good ones put in there. Goldfinger is actually a playable character as well as the timely classic Dr. No. Multiplayer mode is good fun and makes full use of the weapons in head to head combat. Points and skills Completing a level is sometimes not enough. There are little thing which you can do to ensure you get the best experience out of the game. There are upgrades so that you can enhance your gun and make it more powerful or even have some extra ammo shoved in there. There's points which you can spend on buying new characters, concept art or even trailers for levels passed. There are also awards for completing a level within a time limit or doing certain things within a level. These include doing the level in a specific time limit, finding schematics (to upgrade your guns) or even just killing lots of people! It's all in there and with bonus levels to do if you gain enough awards it's all fun when you're in Russia. Overall The game was good fun to play and a definate buy. The plotline was exactly like the movie and made sure that nothing was missed. Yes, this game is fantastic and is nothing short of spectacular. 92% for Bond. Let's hope that he comes back and saves the day again in another old movie. I'm looking at you Goldfinger... |
