Is Lego Star Wars good enough for the gaming world or should it stay in the toybox?
Lego Star Wars : XBox Now I know that this game may not be on every teenagers Christmas list, let alone kids ones, but picking up this game soon finds you wanting more. Even if it leaves you with less. There aren't many faults in this game. The storyline is basically the same as the first 3 movies, following the lives of Obi Wan and Anakin. Of course this game isn't too challenging when it comes to actually playing but this game could throw a few surprises at you. Game play: Okay, pick up the controller, move the analogue stick around and you've got the basic jist of the game. This game has a limited amount of things to do, especially with the attacks and Jedi tricks. With glaring combo moves from other Star wars titles you'd expect this game to have the same kind of rhythm to it. It's a general mash one button, game. It doesn't feature combos and the only rarely exciting thing you can do is try and jump and hit people at the same time. Whoop Dee fricken doo. I expected a lot more to do in this game. Maybe using a Jedi force trick on a plant is exciting enough to get kids to play this but if it was supposed to appeal to a larger audience it failed. The easiness of this game is quite shocking. I was expecting a bit more of a challenge than 3 droids but then again "it's for kids" should have nothing to do with it. So with no difficulty setting this game is about as unpredictable as Polar bears meeting penguins. At some points this game is ridiculously easy. At others, this game can throw some near impossible levels at you. The levels may consist of all 3 of the new movies but overall they do nothing for the whole game. Maybe there's a different challenge here or there but not a lot more is to be said. Each movie consists of about 5-6 levels and they don't take long at all. This game can be beaten within the day, which would make me think that a lot of people have paid ?29.99 for a game they only have the attention for, for just one day. All in all the game play is summed up in one word. Poor. Graphics: It's not Half-life 2 we're talking about here. It's Lego. There isn't much to say about it apart from Lego couldn't do a better job if they tried. Which doesn't mean the graphics are in any means good. Sure it's 3-D and has a lot of very nice looking models and backgrounds, but at the end of the day it isn't anything to boast about. Co-operative mode: This is the only redeeming point of the game. Playing this game with a friend is much better and funnier in the end. There are two ways to play co-op. You can either go through the whole game as a duo of Jedi or you can go back to previous levels and play free play. This is one of the more enjoyable things in the game. Pick any character you've unlocked over all 3 episodes and play as them. After all, the game wouldn't be nearly as funny if you didn't have Count Dooku x2 versus Count Dooku! Now where's the boring in that? So playing old levels with your mate is fun and a good way to spend your time but its overall pointlessness lets it down. The only reason you could want to play this is to get the much-needed Superkit pieces, found throughout every level. Summary: Going out and getting this game would be a waste of time if you don't have a 4-year-old brother. A truly un-recommended game for anybody out there. It's boring to play and has a minimal factor on fun. I give the game 22% and that's only because I found it okay to play with a friend. Sorry Lego. You may have been nice in a nursery toy box, but for XBox your game sucks. Insane_Kenny |
