The EDF needs you to Save the world
Every once in a Blue moon a low budget game comes along and really impresses both gamers and critics a lot. EDF is one of those low budget B-Class games that really pack a punch that Games like Lost Planet fail to deliver. EDF is one of those games that fill?s the fantasy of both 3rd and 1st person shooter gamers that all they want to do is get a gun and blow stuff up. However all that can get boring if nothing new is introduced as the game proceeds. ??????????????? The main story of EDF involves making contact with aliens by the year 2017. Instead of peaceful negotiations the aliens start attacking. That?s when the EDF steps in and tries to stop them. There is more to the story but nothing really important. The game only focuses on the aliens and there is no background story to your character. You don?t even know who he is or what his name is. I guess what they tried to do is put you in the shoes of said player. This doesn?t really add more to the story but it does kind of take away from the main plot. ??????????????? When I first played this game I was scratching my head because all I was doing in the beginning was shooting ants. After a certain amount of levels I finally got to fight some robots but even then that was short. Then there was a change from ants to more aggressive ants that spit out acid. Then more robots and then I got to fight spiders which of course shoot more acid. Most of the same levels are basically being replayed over and over again. That?s not to say that the game has its moments because it does. As you progress through the missions many weapons as well as health and armor get upgraded. This is needed because the player is battling hundreds of ants at once, not to mention that they follow you until they kill the player. So that is a whole lot of shooting that you will be doing, but if the right weapons are chosen it shouldn?t be that hard. ??????????????? The game is easy to handle and get used to. It?s all about shooting and driving some armored vehicles when given the chance and if necessary. Not all of the buttons on the 360 controller are used, which makes this game easy to pick up and play. ??????????????? Since this is a budget game you really can?t expect much of the graphics system. The graphics are nice in some part of the game but in most part you really notice that there is character coalition between some objects once they are destroyed. For example at the beginning of some levels they will show people running for their lives and just pass right through you as if you were a ghost. Blowing up buildings is really fun but when the buildings are falling down they will disappear in mid air and all that will be shown after that is building rubble. Same goes with cars that have been shot at many times they will not blow up but once you pass right through them then you will know that you have destroyed that car. ??????????????? The sound quality in the game is not as good as other games, the voice over is constantly being repeated over and over again. One could say that all the soldiers are related because they all seem to have the same voice but then again even brothers have different voice tones. Then this probably means that they used the same guy to do the voice over for every soldier in the game. The sound effects are not as good as one would think they are. When shooting certain types of weapons such as rocket launcher you will hear a faint sound coming from the rocket while its in motion until it hits something then the sound will become distorted and laud. This can be annoying because you will constantly be changing the volume to your TV way too often until you find a certain sound level that?s not really low or really high. The game is really easy to control, only requiring a few buttons to press on the 360 controller. The original A,B,X, and Y buttons that are used in all the 360 games are not used in this game. All that is really used are the Left and Right Joystick for movement, L and R triggers for shooting and jumping or diving left and right and the R button to change weapons. With 52 levels, over 100 weapons to choose from and several Difficulty modes EDF offers really no replay value almost no unlockables besides the weapons and no new levels not to mention no Xbox Live functionality for both multiplayer and content. The game can be beaten in only a couple of hours and only a few levels are worth going back to and after that the game becomes useless. Closing Comments: EDF is a game that has what many gamers want but lacks what other games do have. It is really not a bad game once you get passed all the faults and the few bugs that were left in. The game has only frozen once while playing. I would recommend that you just rent the game instead of buying it because spending $39.99 on a game with little to no replay value is not worth it. Heck you?ll probably take the game back the very same day because you beat the game. I?m not saying that the game is really bad, I?m just saying that renting it or borrowing the game is better then spending all that hard earn cash on a game that?s really not worth it. Game Play: easy to pick up an play but lacks some of the components that other games offer. 7/10 Graphics: Not the best graphics on the 360 but it?s not all bad once all the action kicks in. 7/10 Controls: easy to control but could have used a few additional commands to do more than just run, shoot and jump. 6/10 Sound: Bad Music, Sound effects and terrible voice over. 2/10 Life Span: Only 52 Missions all based on the same level with little or no replay value. 3/10
