Some said sticking an old Resident Evil game with few extras on Wii was not good enough, so can this exclusive make up for it?
Resident Evil games have always been popular, but Resident Evil side-stories have a history of being... A bit rubbish. So hopes for some weren't exactly high for this, which is basically some of the bits from past Resi games (except Resident Evil 4, for reasons I can only imagine are something along the lines of; "You wanna know what happens? Go buy it! More money for me! Muhahaha!!!") with 'Light-gun like' attributes. So, an on-rails FPS with retro Resi levels? Sounds like both the worst and best idea ever.
The truth around RE:TUC is that it is neither a great game, nor a bad one. If you've played the past Resi games there is no good reason for you to buy this, it's only the things you've done before but harder. Much harder. I mean, it's tremendous fun to play, but with many games it feels like there's a point. With most games the point is to save the world from the evil of... Etcetera, but with RE:TUC since you've ben there, done that, got that zombies T-shirt because it was a Ben Sherman, it doesn't feel like there's any real point to it. It's all based at a time gone by, even the new bits are set in 2002. It just doesn't feel urgent enough.
Although, I'm going on about the bad points and by now you're probably thinking: "Whoa, maybe it isn't as good as I thought it was!". Well, that's only half true. If you're thinking that you're going to sit there with you're Zapper, or whatever you choose to use bored out of your skull, you'll be mistaken. Sure, there's no urgency, but at the same time you want to hone your skills. After a while you'll know where very zombie will appear, and exactly how you should kill him, and where every hidden file was, but that just means you've been playing this for a long time, and enjoying every moment of it. And on top of all that? The weapons you unlock you can upgrade, and carry spare ammo from past levels into later ones, meaning when you go into hard mode you'll be ready.
Finally? Buy it. Even if you've had a good go at the other Resi games and know the storyline you won't want to miss out on the many unlockables and secret files that pick apart the plot-holes in many of the Resi games (Like: how is Umbrella involved in the plaga incident in Resi 4? Find out in RE:TUC!).
Overview: A great game, but perhaps not frantic enough for die hard on-rails fans.
Graphics: 8/10
Story: 5/10
Controls: 9/10
Overall: 8/10 (8/10 is not bad.)
