A Flickr user by the name of BluezPS releases his vision of a new PSP that has people buzzing. Sony has their own plans.
I'll admit when the PSP Slim was released I was a little underwhelmed by it. Yeah it was lighter but other than that it was practically identical to the original PSP in design. BluezPS, a Flickr user and concept artist, felt the same way too and released some designs of what he feels and apparently, what everyone in the PSP community, feels is a way cooler and more functional design. The new design sports two analog sticks and two shoulder buttons and it's sleek, sexy, slide design make it perfect for watching videos.
This design looks good conceptually but some factors may prevent this dream from being realized. For one, the PSP uses an LCD screen which may be too thick for such a slim design and alternatives such as OLEDs are a little pricey and I think a lot of us would love to see a touch screen. The shoulder buttons on this design look like they would feel a little awkward. The guts of the PSP would have to be severely downsized to fit in there with the UMD loading dock. The final reason why we may never be holding this PSP in our hands is because Sony already has it's own plans for a new PSP.
Yeah that's right, Sony Ericsson recently filed a patent for what they feel is the next step in the PSP's evolution. The Sony Ericsson PSP Phone will have built in GPS, a camera, and will be able to play MP3s and I guess you could make calls with it too. No word however if it will play UMDs. This is just a concept and no official design has been announced.
