PSP Outsells DS and Wii In Japan Print
Written by Andrew Jardel
Saturday, 08 March 2008
Whoa look what happened while I was away, the PSP out sold the DS and the Wii.

The PSP and the DS have been neck and neck in Japan recently but the PSP has actually outsold the PSP. If out selling Nintendo's record breaking handheld wasn't enough the PSP out sold the Wii too. Here are the numbers:

PSP: 73,706
Wii:64,535
DS:51,922
PS3:13,520
PS2:10,986
Xbox360:2,282

The Japanese don't seem to be big fans of the Xbox360, it's probably because they don't have that many RPGs featuring androgynous heroes with giant swords, too bad. There are a few reasons why the PSP may of came out on top this week. One could be that the PSP actually got some games, like Patapon or God Of War: Chains of Olympus. Maybe new features like Skype help the PSP fit in with the Japanese on-the-go lifestyle. It could be that the Japanese market is saturated with the DS but DS sales were actually up this week. But I think the obvious reason was because I was sick. The one week I was sick PSP sales went up. Coincidence? I think not.
