The PSP has been selling like hotcakes in Japan. Do they even have hotcakes in Japan?
It dominated the market every week in March, beating out it's toughest competitors, the DS and the Wii. But what is really surprising is the PSP sold more units than all other consoles COMBINED! Here are the numbers:
DS: 58,196
Wii: 48,785
PS3: 11,206
Xbox 360: 1,547
Add all those numbers up (don't bother I'll do it for you) and you get 119,734 which is just shy of the PSP's 129,986 units sold.
A few factors do play into the PSP success such as new features and the fact that everyone in Japan already owns a DS or two. But the real reason everyone bought a PSP was for Monster Hunter Freedom 2G. The Japanese love their Monster Hunter. They love it so much that the previous games have sold over 2 million copies and this one looks to break that record.
