Senior VP of the PSN, Peter Dille, confirms Home and in game XMB for 2008 and hints at new downloadable service.

2008 not only looks to be a great year for the PS3 but also one for the PSN. The new PlayStation Store was recently launched and it looks fantastic. But in-game XMB and Home, two the biggest features PS3 owners have been waiting for, have not yet arrived.

In a recent interview, Senior VP of the PSN, Peter Dille has eased our minds. He has promised that in-game XMB and Home, among other community building features.

"Community-related services available via PlayStation Network have also been [sic] a big focus for enhancements here in 2008," he posted on the official US blog.

"We know you want in-game access to XMB features and we're committed to bringing that, among other community-related services this year.

Dille then hints about the PS3 "Accomplishment" or Trophy system.

"They will be designed to allow more community development and collaborative gameplay, as well as recognize and reward you for your gameplay accomplishments across a broad portfolio of PS3 games."

And last but not least he briefly mentions a media download service for the PS3 that would allow television, movies and other media to be downloaded directly to the PS3.

"Many of you have been hearing rumblings about a video service that will allow you to download full-length TV shows and movies via PlayStation Network for North America," he said.

"While I don't have any new announcements here for the PlayStation Nation, it's already been confirmed that we'll be offering a video service for PS3 in a way that separates the service from others you've seen or used.

But as Dille said this service  is only coming to North America at the time. At least Europe has PlayTV. It's great the Sony is investing so much into it's online and making to comparable and, dare I say, better to some paid online services, and it's all free.
