Can you really be that surprised? Seriously.
Oh No! Home got pushed back again for the billionth time. First it was supposed to released late 2007. But then it was delayed until Spring 2008. And now Sony announces today that they are pushing it back until Fall 2008.
Home has been in a closed Beta and the open Beta was expected to be released by Spring. Now the closed beta is being extended over the summer and the open Beta is now expected to come out in the fall. No word on when the full version will be released, if it ever does.
What's the cause of the delay, the same standard industry reason, we need more time to make it better. Kaz Hirai says:
"We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait
a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time
to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment
experience than what it is today," he said. "Our overarching objective
is to provide users with new gaming experiences that are available only
on PlayStation Home. Spending more time on the development and on the
closed beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality
service, maintaining the PlayStation tradition."
In the meantime the closed Beta is being expanded to a few more people. They should change it's name to Retirement Home, because by the time it comes out we'll be old and gray.
