Grand Theft Auto 4. The Backlash Begins Print
Written by Donny
Saturday, 03 May 2008

It's only been days since GTA4 was released and already whiny people are complaning.

Grand Theft Auto 4 is what it is; a great game that is Rated M and should not be played by anyone under 17. We call 17 year olds teenagers not children. The fact that you find 12 year olds playing Halo 3 online or another type of shooting game means that they're parents must be fucking or doing some type of drugs and want their kids to be entertained while they are doing whatever they are going.

Yet it is the same parents who probably did drugs back in the day, who get drunk in front of their children and act violently and people who by choice do what they do and not give a fuck if they are doing it in front of their children who are protesting against Grand Theft Auto 4.

Many Activist groups, police officers and victims of crime have been protesting this game to be given a Rating of Rated AO because it is for adults only. Now I always give this argument but there's more violence in movie theatres yet the parents take their children to see that movie. I remember going into Freddy VS Jason and saw a family with little children going to see that movie. Now I'm not saying that is bad parenting but if their children were to do something bad those same parents would be on TV complaining that TV, Movies or Video Games made their son a shithead.

Grand Theft Auto 4 is a fine game that allows you to do almost anything you wouldn't do in real life. One example is driving while intoxicating. Now I find that really interesting and I love doing it in the game it actually teaches you a lesson that you shouldn't drive while drunk because you might get into a car accident.

Yet Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) protested the game, saying, "drunk driving is a choice, a violent crime... [it] is not a game, and it is not a joke."

Yes I agree it is no joke. Nearly 13,500 die drunk driving crashes every year with another half a mil injured.

I agree that it is bad I don't think game sends that message that you should drive drunk and what the drunk or the person wants to do then blame them don't blame video games. Teenagers start drinking when they are teenagers. Maybe they are under peer pressure to do it or maybe they see mom and dad do it and think that it is ok. Yet where are mom and dad when their children are doing this. Where are mom and dad when their children go on spring break and make an appearance on Girls Gone Wild.

I remember a case where a parent sued the makers of Girls Gone Wild because they featured their daughter when she was only 17. 17. Fuck if I would see my daughter showing her breast and drinking I wouldn't go after the makers of Girls Gone Wild I would go after my daughter and tell her what the fuck was she doing there if she was only 17.

Violence is a serious crime and a police shoot out is no laughing matter. In fact I salute the cops who are out there risking their lives every day from nut jobs and drug dealers. But at the same time I don't think those nutjobs and drug dealers learned to shoot or drive or even learned how to sell drugs or be in police shoot outs from Grant Theft Auto.

"being involved in a shootout in a video game has no consequences and that is the wrong message to send to young people."

New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and the mother of a killed NYPD officer echoed similar sentiments in the same report, saying GTA IV "doesn't exactly teach the kind of things that you'd want to teach your kids," or more descriptively put, "teaches children to kill."

Of Course you don't want to teach your children to kill. But where are you when your children are misbehaving. Where are the parents when their children are in need of help with something? Of course these days about 50% of parents don’t really care about their children and they are left out there to fend for themselves. But this influence cannot come from a video game. Someone isn't going to play Grant Theft Auto and say wow this really motivates me to go out and shoot people or steal cars or rob banks and shoot cops. Once someone is fucked in the head they are fucked in the head and they are going to do whatever it is they were going to do. Nothing can change that.

My little bro is 12 years old and he plays Grant Theft Auto 4. However I always keep an eye out for him and if he ever gets out of hand I will be there to set him straight. Up till this date he hasn't shown signs that he wants to kill anyone or steal a car or even drink alcohol. Why? Because I am there to keep him in line and so are my parents. He is good student and I am proud of him. If all of these parents were like my parents then we probably wouldn't have all this Bullshit.

But then again it is those Parent's stupidity that drives their children to be as stupid as they are and protest something that has no effect on their lives. Instead of being out there protesting they should be keeping an eye out there making sure their kids are ok.

If you're kid is a little fuck up, you have no one else to blame but yourself.
