CNET has composed an article on 7 reasons not to use the PS3 as a blu-ray player. Out of those 7 reasons only maybe about 2 are valid reasons. The rest are nothing but nonsense.
We all know that the PS3 is a power machine playing everything from Blu-Ray to memory card. I was skeptic in the beginning of the PS3 but after owning it I do have to say it is worth every penny. I think buying a PS3 instead of buying a stand alone Blu-Ray Player is way better because you get all these features that you wouln't with a regular Blu-Ray Player.
CNET has composed this list of why you shouldn't use the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player and I have to say that it must be a real slow day over at CNET.
The 7 Reasons are:
1. Doesn't work with universal remotes
2. It's louder than stand-alones
3. Interface isn't as easy to use
4. You have an older AV receiver and need multichannel analog outputs
5. You want to save money
6. I need to see my receiver light up and say "Dolby TrueHD"
7. Jack of all trades, master of none
First of all the PS3 remote you can get for $15 at the most and if you dont want to you can use your PS3 remote. Yes it takes some time to get used to but the same can be said about any Universal remote.
You will want to play your TV loud when watching movies. You didn't spend $500 for a home theatre system just to pussy out and not crank it up. Even at regular volume it's still hard to hear the fan. Is it loud? Yes. Is your TV louder? Yes. So Crank it up.
The interface is just the same as any other interface. People will eventually get used to it after a couple of uses. Heck I don't even use the interface because I already remember all of the buttons of the controls.
Yes the PS3 uses more wattage than a regular one. That I will give them. In fact it is the only one I will give them but that is not much of a reason to not want to use your PS3 as a Blu-Ray player. In fact if you want to save energy you can turn off your PS3 with the back switch once you are done with it.
Like I said it must really be a slow day over at CNET.
