For those of you who live in the US and play online alot this could mean bad news.
OK the average user uses about 3 to 4 GB to surf, read and send emails and even stream some videos. Which is why some cell phone companies give you a 5GB limit so that you won't hog their networks and slow everybody down while you're watching your porn. The same goes with home users. If everyone were to use some type of downloading service and use it all the time we would probably be sent back to the stone ages.
Using a service like bit torrent can slow down bandwidth for everyone. Comcast cannot slow down their networks for heavy users because the FCC didn't allow it. Also not everyone who uses alot of bandwidth uses a download service like bit torrent. Some play online, some stream porn . To gamers like myself this is not a problem because I know we don't use up to 250GB of bandwidth data per month. Unless those 250GB are per yearly use then we are screwed.
Comcast has basically started threatening heavy users by cutting off their service.
“This wouldn’t be necessary if Comcast had chosen to expand its
capacity,” said Michael Shames, executive director of the Utility
Consumers’ Action Network in San Diego. “They’ve chosen instead to
degrade service.”
Of course I don't have Comcast but Time Warner might be affiliated with Comcast so Im assuming that I will probably be given the same treatment. This however will affect everyone even VOIP service since they are up and running 24/7/365 not to mention shared networks.
I guess we will just have to wait and see if this will infact affect everyone. How will someone know they were affected. Simple You have internet one day and the next day you dont.
