What took so long?
According to EA CEO, John "EA will kill a game or two a year. Forever."Of course we've seen that happen where EA games come and go. This year one game has already been canceled which was Command and Conquer. Now EA has hired a hitman to take out NBA Street.
The title which was released on Xbox 360 and PS3 back in Feb 2007 has only sold 380,000 units since August 2008. Chances are that number hasn't changed ever since.
"We'll still do traditional sports, but we're going to do them a
different way," he said. "Street is a good example. We built a new
Freestyle brand to do different things, and we also need to build our
own intellectual properties. We rely on other people's IP for
everything we do and we need to develop some new things. In the old
days we had things like SSX that were our own intellectual property,
but since then we've kind of moved away from that."
NBA Street was a good game when it launched but if you're still reusing the same formula of course the game will slowly die. It appears that the line of Street games has come to an end. I have not seen NFL Street since part 3, Fifa Street since part 2, Def Jam which was made available on 360 and PS3 the same time as NBA Street.
With traditional sports you get new rosters every year but with street you need more than to change the rosters around. Well this is one series gamers won't be too sad about. I can bet anything that about 99% of you don't even remember when NFL Street 3 made its final appearance.
