You may have noticed that Console Central hasn't been at all active over the past month, so I thought I would give some explanation for the lack of news.
I'm currently developing an entirely new system for Console Central to help improve our readers impression of the website and reader involvement. We've had a lot of criticism over the years and it's all been taken onboard to the point where we're all feeling the limits of our current system.
Much to my regret, I asked the other writers to take 5 whilst I developed the new system and progress has been slow. Lack of enthusiasm and participation all round has left us taking 10 instead with no news being added. Now, I could have developed the software in the background (and for the most part, I have) but it was getting to a point where I was getting thoroughly stressed out about all of the work I had to do on an active website, dealing with the requests of the other writers and developing this software, all on top of my home life and work life.
The writers were given a choice to leave Console Central or stick around and although they opted to stick around and continue writing, I have barely heard a peep from them.
So now I would like to make if official: Console Central is on hold until the new site has been developed and implemented.
Although this will play hell on our traffic, I feel it is necessary, and I feel you all need an explanation so that Console Central doesn't look as if it's fizzling out of life - it's not; in fact, it's quite the opposite since we're willing to go to this extreme in order to preserve Console Central's future.
I would like to invite you all to a discussion about this where you can provide your input about the kinds of features you would like to see on the new site. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Ideas for a theme, features you would want to see (no matter how basic it is). It will also give you the opportunity to test the beta site before it gets launched for real, hopefully during early 2009.
